Now that we're starting to understand that everyone can win, we are looking more closely at how this actually happens. We talked about the words we hear when people are trying to find a compromise and how those words are different than words used when someone is trying to get their way. We also shared times when we may have been too "pushy" and someone gave in to us just because they didn't want to argue. Some of us even shared times when we let other people get their way. Now we know there's another option and what kinds of things we can do to change this. An Emotional Bank Account is a good way to think about which words build you up and which words tear you down. Anything that adds to your emotional well-being is called a Deposit, but something that chips away at you, is a Withdrawal on your Emotional Bank Account. Even though this story below uses a "bucket" as their metaphor, the message is exactly the same. We can all be people that add to each others' Emotional Bank Accounts. Today we learnt about Picasso and watched an online version of the story When Pigasso met Mootisse. We read about Picasso's life history and then had a go at creating Cubist-style art portraits. If you want to have an online bit of practise, follow this link here. Our French knitting spools have produced beautiful pieces of art. Some are still in pieces, but others are coming together very well! Here's a few examples of our work:
In 4P we've explored how versatile wool can be when used as a visual art medium. We have made pom poms, french knitting spools and even had a go at finger knitting. Now we're ready to move on to a bigger project. WEAVING!!! Today we're making the loom. Looms can be used over and over again. Some looms are wide (like ones used to make rugs) and others are very narrow. Some are made out of wood, some of plastic, and even some out of recycled cardboard! Once the warp is ready, we move left and right, back and forth, threading our wool over and under. We alternate each round, so if we went over the strand in our first round, now we take the weft under. More detailed, step-by-step instructions about how to weave the wool, can be found here. Alternatively, if you want the whole lot of instructions about how to make a loom, weave, how to change colours, and how to finish, you can download them from this link. |
