This term has been a wonderful opportunity for all of you to express yourselves creatively. I am so impressed with the level of imaginative writing produced! For our final 100 WC, we will be showing off our best work, and what better way to do that, than to share it with another class? Today 4P will be opening our doors to 3/4L and showing those students how we use a basic prompt to expand our minds, challenge our writing style and give feedback to each other. Remember to check your writing for capital letters, full stops and spelling errors before you hit submit. Also, check and see if you can use names, dialogue or other literary techniques to entertain the reader. Your prompt is... ... and then the sun came out. Special Showcases are here too. |

To make a story or a poem more interesting, a writer often tries to use words to create a picture inside the reader's head. A simile is when you say that something - a person or place, animal or thing - is LIKE something else. A simile always uses the word ‘as’ or ‘like’. Here are some examples of similes: "The boy was as slow as a snail." "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag- drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?" A metaphor makes an even stronger image in the reader's head. When you use a metaphor, you are saying that a person, place, animal or thing IS some thing else (not just LIKE it!). Metaphors are stronger images than similes. They don’t mean exactly what the words say. Here are some examples of metaphors: "His voice was a raging ocean." "Because baby, you're all fireworks- come on, show 'em what you're worth! Make 'em go, oh, as you shoot across the sky." Here's a quick game to test your knowledge of similes and metaphors. This week's 100WC is all about trying to use a simile, metaphor or an idiom in your writing. Your prompt takes its inspiration from one of these amazing photos: Hello 4P!
